The Genealogy Assistant Research Costs 

         The research rate is $45/hour. Large amounts of time requested may be discounted which will be stated in the contract. 

         For most projects a retainer is made and will be applied toward the number of hours you authorize. This initial retainer will cover the first set of hours of research requested. Each additional hour after that is billed at $45.00 per hour, unless a new contract is signed for another block of hours of research. For large projects, periodic payments of expenses may be requested as research progresses.

         I generally do not take on projects that require the research of one or two records. However, assuming the record dates are known & if it happens that I am already going to a particular institution where your records may be located, I can look for that record, otherwise I can hold your request and take care of it the next time I visit that particular institution. The minimum cost is one full hour ($45.00) paid in advance + any copies & microfilm fees, etc.. 

         The work will commence upon the receipt of the retainer fee. The hourly rate is for research, family report preparation, information analysis & expense report preparation, with recommendations for future research.

Travel Expenses:

These charges will include; travel time (billed at $25.00 per hour), tolls, and parking fees, etc. If travel is required to a destination that is more than 30 miles from Henniker, NH you will be charged mileage at the current rate authorized by the Internal Revenue Service (55 ¢/mile).

If travel is required to a destination that is more than 100 miles from Henniker, NH, alternative options for travel may have to be discussed i.e. airline tickets, lodging and meals required for overnight travel.

Reasonable efforts are made to combine trips for multiple clients so that the travel costs can be split.  You will receive an itemized list of any travel expenses charged to you.  If my combined research time (for clients I did research for at that institution) is at least 6 hours total/day, then travel expenses will not be charged to (except for travel time).

Other Expenses:

Other expenses may be incurred, but not necessarily for all projects. It depends on what needs to be done for your project. If microfilm needs to be rented, a fee for the film rentals will be incurred. Any photocopies, photographs, vital record fees, institutional entrance fees (provided that I am not already a member and have free entry), long distance phone calls, postage and handling, and other ordered or approved out-of-pocket expenses, will also be billed.

Translation services:

This rate can vary according to document size.

• Uncertified translations: on average - $30 per page
• Certified translations:  Quoted by the certified translation service 

Payment:

         If you would like to give a loved one the "gift of a lifetime", a genealogy research package could be the answer. Research Gift certificates are also available. Additional copies of the genealogy report can be purchased. Remember all reports are copyrighted, and duplication is illegal. This will allow you to share the costs of research with other members of your family and let everyone have their own copy of the report, or give a copy as a gift.

         After the purchased genealogy research hours are completed & any other expenses are paid in full, the results will be sent to you and you will be asked if you would like The Genealogy Assistant to continue researching for you. 

         At this point I accept payment in the form of cash, checks or money orders drawn on American banks and payable in American dollars. If you pay by check or money order, payments can be made out to “The Genealogy Assistant" and mailed to:
